China dominates the car market, and not just electric cars . In 2022, an average of 5 new cars will be launched per month.
In 2022, a total of 131 new cars will be unveiled or launched globally. The figure excludes rebadged models, facelifts and concepts, while Chinese automakers accounted for 47% of new cars produced.
Calculations starting from January 1, 2022 show that China has launched 62 new models, an average of 5 new cars per month. SAIC Group is the manufacturer that launches the most new cars on the market, with 10 different new models. Followed by Geely and Haval , which launched 8 models and 6 new cars respectively.
Toyota leads the way
Looking internationally, Toyota is the group that will launch the most new models in 2022. In fact, the Japanese company has launched 11 new models, including four SUVs, three sedans, three MPVs and one city car, including the Lexus 3 and Daihatsu 3 brands, which is the same number of new cars launched by Toyota in 2021.
Next is SAIC, with a total of 10 new cars, divided into 6 SUVs, two sedans, a five-door hatchback and an MPV. General Motors also has 10 models, thanks to its Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC brands. Next is Honda, with a total of 8 new cars, including the new generation Accord , CR-V and Pilot.
Stellantis is the European group with the most debuts. The Alfa Romeo Tonale, Citroen C4X, Fiat Fastback, Jeep Avenger, Maserati Grecale, and Peugeot 408 are among them, but the new Maserati GranTurismo is excluded because the interior has not yet been revealed.
Volkswagen has launched a total of six new cars, including an Audi China version, Skoda Enyaq Coupé, two Volkswagen China versions, the new Amarok and ID.Buzz. We also found BMW and Mercedes-Benz launching four new products each, followed by Suzuki, Ford and Hyundai with three each.
67 SUV models
As expected, SUVs continue to dominate the launch list, accounting for 51% of new cars released in 2022. Manufacturers such as SAIC, Geely, Honda and Stellantis dominate this ranking.
For four-door sedans, a total of 23 sedans will be launched in 2022, 12 of which will be sold only in China.
Somewhat surprisingly, despite declining minivan and MPV sales in Europe and North America, there are still 16 new MPVs for 2022. As with sedans, half of these new models are sold in China.
