In 2022, 131 new cars will be unveiled or launched. This figure excludes rebadged models, updated versions and concepts, but includes all production cars shown to the global public.

As can be seen from the data in the figure below, among the data on new cars produced in 2022, new cars produced by Chinese manufacturers accounted for 47% of the total.

Japanese car manufacturers ranked second, accounting for 20%. Ranked third are European car manufacturers, accounting for 18%, and the top three account for 85%.

Calculation starting from January 1, 2022 shows that China has launched 62 new cars, with an average of 5 new cars per month. SAIC is the manufacturer with the most innovative launches on the market, with 10 different new models . Followed by eight models of Geely (Geely) and Great Wall (Great Wall).

Toyota leads

Toyota is the manufacturer that has launched the most cars in 2022. In fact, the Japanese company has launched 11 new models, including four SUVs, three sedans, three MPVs and a city car. This is the same number of new cars launched by Toyota in 2021, and is also the number of new cars launched by Toyota, Lexus and Daihatsu brands.

As can be seen from the data in the table below, Toyota Motor and Honda Motor occupy the top two positions in the rankings. Domestic car manufacturers occupy 4 seats, namely SAIC Roewe, BYD, GAC Trumpchi and Hongqi .

SAIC Group has a total of 10 new models, including 6 SUVs, 2 sedans, 1 five-door hatchback and 1 MPV. General Motors also ranked 10th thanks to its Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC brands. Next are Honda's eight new cars, including the new generation Accord (Accord), CR-V and Pilot.

Stellantis is the European group with the most debuts, with the Alfa Romeo Tonale, Citroën C4

Volkswagen also launched a total of six new cars, including an Audi China version, Skoda Enyaq Coupé, two Volkswagen China versions, the new Amarok and ID.Buzz. Going further, we find BMW and Mercedes-Benz each launching four new products, followed by Suzuki, Ford and Hyundai with three each.

SUVs dominate

As expected, SUVs continue to dominate the launch list, accounting for 51% of new cars released in 2022. Manufacturers such as SAIC, Geely, Honda and Stellantis dominate this ranking.

is more independent in the new sedan, four-door sedan, mainly due to the demand of the Chinese market. A total of 23 sedans were on display in 2022, 12 of which were only sold in China.

Despite the decline in minivan and MPV sales in Europe and North America, there are still 16 new MPVs in 2022. As with sedans, half of these new models won't leave the Chinese market.
