[Pacific Auto 2022 Guangzhou Auto Show] Crown occupies a very important position in the minds of our older generation. The Crown back then was comparable to BBA, but with the development of the times, Crown seems to be becoming more and more "marginal". We can't help but ask: What happened to Crown?
seems to have officially realized the seriousness of the problem and brought a new generation of Crown in July this year. This time the Crown is a little different from our expectations. It is no longer a single car series, but more like another high-end brand of Toyota . Crown has brought three types of models - crossover , sedan, and SUV. This time we are introducing its crossover model - Crown SportCross. What kind of surprises will it bring with its uniqueness?
Design: Controversial Maverick
When I first saw the Crown SportCross, the editor couldn't help but ask: Is this really the Toyota Crown we know? Indeed, except for the crown logo on the front of the car, we can’t see any shadow of the previous generation Crown. The elegant and smooth shape, the unique two-color body and the Cross package made potential consumers of the original Crown confused. It was difficult to accept the appearance of the Crown for a while, but it is undeniable that the styling design of the Crown SportCross is highly topical and controversial.
Cabin: New design, five senses priority
Although the interior of Crown SportCross adopts a new island structure design concept, compared with the unique appearance, the interior is still more acceptable; judging from the interior design, the familiar Crown seems to be back. The center console is equipped with two 12.3-inch LCD screens. Although it does not adopt an integrated design, it can also create a certain suspended visual effect through the black trim panel. In addition, Crown SportCross is also equipped with the popular electronic gear lever, mobile phone wireless charging function, Type-c charging interface, etc.
Ride: Good comfort Space is average
Crown SportCross has size data of 4930mm in length, 1840mm in width, 1540mm in height and 2850mm in wheelbase. Compared with the 15th-generation Crown, the body shape is fully enlarged, but the wheelbase is slightly reduced, from 2920mm to 2850mm, resulting in slightly insufficient legroom for rear passengers. However, the roof space of Crown SportCross is well optimized. Despite the fastback design, headroom is still guaranteed.

Power: 2.5L hybrid The 2.4T hybrid
Crown SportCross provides two non-plug-in petrol-electric hybrid systems to choose from. One is equipped with a 2.5L four-cylinder naturally aspirated gasoline engine model A25B, with a maximum system power of 234PS; the other is equipped with a 2.4T four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine (Dual Boost Hybrid) System), with a maximum power of 255kW (349PS), a maximum torque of 2551N·m, and an acceleration time of 100 kilometers per hour in 5.8 seconds. In addition, the new car will also be equipped with E-Four Advanced electronic four-wheel drive.
Summary
In the past, the Crown reflected the restraint and luxury of the East. It was not necessarily suitable for consumers around the world, resulting in limitations in its audience and market. Today's Crown has taken a global view, incorporating more young, fashionable and technological elements, gaining attention with bold and avant-garde designs, and impressing consumers with new car-making concepts. However, judging from its advanced and unique appearance, domestic consumers may not necessarily buy it. In other aspects, Crown SportCross does not have much to offer, so the brand's rebirth has a long way to go. (Picture/Text: Pacific Motors Li Jiaming)
