The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) previously awarded the 2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class (2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class) Top Safety Pick+. IIHS said that the newly modified C-Class has met all the requirements of the highest award, providing two headlights and two different front anti-collision systems.
Starting this year, to obtain Top Safety Pick+ evaluation, it is necessary to obtain the "Good" evaluation in six IIHS impact test evaluations, including frontal positioning cell impact on the driver's side, frontal positioning cell impact on the co-pilot's side, frontal positioning cell impact on the frontal positioning cell impact on the original vehicle side, roof strength and head support tests.
In addition, the vehicle must also be equipped with a forward anti-collision system, which is rated as "Advanced" or "Superior" in the vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-peer evaluation. Finally, the car series must also be marked with "Good" and "Acceptable" headlight groups to get the "Top Safety Pick+".
IIHS gave a very "Good" rating to the C-Class standard static LED headlights. Active steering headlights within the Smart Digital Lighting Kit are rated "Acceptable". The active brake assist and forward collision prevention system of
C-Class has received a "Superior" rating in the vehicle-to-vehicle evaluation and a "Advanced" rating in the daytime vehicle-to-peer evaluation. At the same time, the active collision avoidance assist system with intersection traffic identification received a "Superior" rating in both tests.
Previously, IIHS announced the vehicles that won the highest award in 2022, and this year it was ranked first by Hyundai Motor Group.
Starting in 2023, IIHS will introduce stricter standards for its testing. The updated side crash test will be tested at higher speeds and heavier obstacles. In addition, a new night pedestrian collision test will be conducted.
