For many car collectors, the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing is a dream-like collectible. Not only does it have an aesthetic design that is still amazing today, it has even influenced the development trajectory of contemporary art. Thirty years after its launch, the 300 SL Gullwing became the source of a series of automobile artworks inspired by the popular master Andy WarholAndy Warhol.
Mercedes-Benz Royal modification brand Brabus not only found the original 300 SL Gullwing, but also set out to restore it to perfect condition, making this classic car that has an important position in the automotive world and even the art world reappear again. Andy Warhol's "Cars" car series completed the first work in 1986. At that time, an art gallery owner commissioned him to create it based on the 300 SL.
Warhol found the suitable car he wanted to make into a work of art on pages 94 and 95 of the book "World Sports Cars" written by Frank Oleski: a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing, chassis number 198.040-5500629, license plate EI – DR1. This work was also loved by the original manufacturer. Daimler-Benz successively commissioned Warhol to create 80 car series works. Unfortunately, the Cars series was not completed until Andy Warhol passed away in 1987.
Although the Cars series was not completed, it has still become one of Warhol's most representative artistic achievements. He showed his passion through eye-catching colors and displayed his own personal artistic style. After so many years, the 300 SL Gullwing in the original work has long since disappeared. However, unexpectedly, in 2020, Brabus actually rediscovered the "EI-DR 1" 300 SL and sought out Mercedes-Benz Classic classic cars. Department experts assisted in the recovery.
Then Brabus used its own Brabus Classic car department to launch a 6-star restoration plan. After all experts spent more than 4,500 hours of manual work, the 300 SL Gullwing was finally restored to the way it looked when it just left the factory. Not only did every car Not a single part is missing, and the paint is exactly the same as the original car color. Even the 3.0-liter straight-6 engine mounted on the car has been completely restored. It can output maximum horsepower 215 horsepower, so it can reproduce the classic European wing door classic car.
