The Porsche 963 will make its first official appearance at the Daytona 24-hour endurance race in the United States in January 2023. At the same time, the FIA World Endurance Championship has also been opened for testing and is regarded as the outpost of this year’s upcoming World Championship. The Porsche Penske Motorsport team captain also plans to conduct a non-competition preview at the final round of the season in Bahrain in November this year.
In order to comply with LMDh regulations, the Porsche 963 uses a newly developed LMP2 racing chassis by Canadian high-tech company Multimatic, and standard hybrid components are provided by Bosch, Williams Advanced Engineering and Xtrac. The core of the power system relies on a 4.6-liter V8 twin-turbocharged engine, which is derived from the 918 Spyder gasoline-electric hybrid sports car. Its DNA can be traced back to the RS Spyder race car, which scored multiple wins with Porsche and Team Penske from 2005 to 2008. The design of the new Porsche 963 inherits the two classic models of the 1980s, the 956 and 962.
