It is difficult to see the changes brought about by plastic surgery.

What we like: great engine, great chassis, comfort, overall sleeper
What we don’t like: it can feel like a two-ton car, and it’s hard to justify the V8 now
, Their dream summer road wagon is a cabriolet or some form of stylish retro van. You are welcome to use the Miles Chew function, but you do want a little bit of soul and soul stuff, right? When you park it on a remote beach in a small town or at a pit-stop cafe, will you look back?
In that case, the BMW 5 Series is usually not what you think, but in this regard, the M550i Pure may be a sleeper, among others. Throughout the summer, I used the M550i key for two weeks.
Is this the perfect 5 series? I think so. If possible, it is more polarity friendly.
To talk about the background a little bit, the M550i has undergone all the adjustments of the 5 series in 2021, but it is still a step away from the full fat M5. The Pure variant is the "stripper" version of this version. I use quotation marks because it still offers a large number of packages, such as adaptive M suspension, laser headlights, four-zone climate control, M Sport brakes, Harman Kardon audio system and BMW full driving assistance package. It does not have soft closing doors, glass sunroofs, BMW stunt "display keys" that feel more like a smartphone than a key, and there is no upgraded M suspension professional version.
However, both M550i variants share a lovely 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8.
This logo may no longer indicate a displacement of 5 liters. But it still shows V8 power.
This engine is the same as in the M5 (and other BMW models), adjusted here to produce 390kW and 750Nm, enough to increase the speed of the car to 100kmh in 3.8 seconds. Although it doesn't feel so fast, it is actually a good thing. The M550i is not as loud as an AMG or even a strong M car, it is just quietly aggressive. Even in Sport Plus mode, shifting is smooth, non-aggressive, and the suspension is still supple.
But please don't get me wrong, this is an express train. The drive from Auckland to Hastings usually includes a highway cruise, but if you stray off the beaten track, there are some exciting parts. Tahuna Road, which connects Interstate 1 to SH27, is a beautiful tarmac ribbon, and the M550i sucks it for joy.
In Sport Plus mode, the steering is also very smart, and the xDrive all-wheel drive system has a rear deflection angle, which is always popular in cars with sports ambitions. At higher speeds, the M550i weighing 2 tons is sometimes felt, but due to the high-quality rubber and perfect chassis, this rarely happens. When pressed, the M Sport suspension is excellent, especially the active roll stabilizer.
Comfort also extends to the rear passengers. Remember, this is not M5, it is more civilized than it.
Back to the aorta, hit Eco Plus to keep the V8 at a quiet rhythm, just flipping above the idle speed. Interestingly, it does not yet have the charging function of mild hybrid, which makes its fuel consumption really impressive. When we arrived at Hastings, the number I saw was below 9L/100km, although it was mainly highway cruises. Returning the car to the car after driving for two weeks, the real world figure is only 12L/100km.
In other words, 2021 is not a V8 year. It will become more and more difficult to buy such large engines, no matter how good their fuel performance is or how excited they are to drive. If you plan to do this and want to update it, now is the time. Or, when it is finally launched,Buy hybrid/electric vehicles at the same price. A good car is a good car, no matter how powerful it is. But, you know, don’t turn a blind eye to it.
This is also a good time to mention, although the heavy V8 will obviously be a good time on off-road roads, but it is also a great tool for distributing one of the most annoying things on the road. Not a slow truck or caravan, I mean those who drive at 80 km/h until there is a driver who passes the lane, and then decide to drive at 110 km/h when you try to pass. I don't know the idea behind it, but I am very satisfied to be able to dispatch them without any effort.
It looks like any BMW car, but it is better than most other cars.
This is a suitable sleeper car, unlike other cars on the market. Take RS 6 as an example. Its wagon design can quickly catch the neck while maintaining a certain degree of practicality, but if you see RS 6, you will know exactly what you want to do. With huge vents, low-speed driving, angry eyes, and fat exhaust, the current RS 6 is clearly a supercar that tries to be a station wagon, not a station wagon that happens to have supercar performance.
At the same time, the M550i looks like a BMW sedan. Of course, it is lower, with a small spoiler and larger wheels, but at first glance, it is part of the crowd. Then put your feet down, remembering that there is a roaring V8 under the hood.
Coupled with the cruel powertrain, gorgeous chassis, restrained sleeper style, sporty ability without sacrificing comfort, and decent fuel consumption, I want to say that the M550i is the perfect 5 series. If it is not so harsh on the environment.
