After the Buddha of Shakyamuni Chen Bao, he brought his ten disciples to preach in Shavai . At that time, five hundred beggars gathered in Shavai . After seeing Sakyamuni, all the beggars were determined to follow him. Although they still beg for a living, a few years later, all five hundred beggars decided to become monks and study Buddhism together.
After the beggars made the Jedi parlor, they came to Sakyamuni's residence. After learning about their thoughts, Sakyamuni agreed to their request and personally preached to them many times.
Although these five hundred beggars were humble, they studied very seriously. The most rare thing was that they could persist in diligent practice, and soon completely eliminated the troubles and pain in their hearts and attained the Arhat fruit.
But the wealthy believers and elders in Sarvassiah looked down on these beggar-born people, regardless of whether they had already achieved the Arhat fruit, they were still very arrogant when they saw them.
On this day, the prince of Sarvasti, Jita, wanted to offer sacrifices to the monks, so he sent an envoy to the residence of Sakyamuni and sincerely told Prince Jita about his request, hoping that the Buddha could lead the monks to accept his offerings together, but he specifically stated that the five hundred monks who were beggars could not go.
The next day, Shakyamuni set out with monks who met the conditions. Before leaving, he told the beggar monks that I would take my senior brothers to receive the offerings of the prince, but Jita was unwilling to offer to you. You can go to Yudaluoyue to get the best food, and then go to the prince’s house and eat the food he brought.
So, five hundred beggars who had already attained the Arhat fruit used their magical powers to fly to Yudora Yue to get the best food, and then to Jita's house, sitting in an orderly manner behind Sakyamuni. Everyone ate their own food, but instead was admired by the audience.
Prince Jita knew that these beggars whom he was unwilling to offer had actually attained the Arhat fruit, and felt very ashamed. He regretted and blamed himself in front of the Buddha, and asked the Buddha to enlighten the Jizi about their fate.
Sakyamuni told everyone that for a long time, countless lives ago, there were more than 2,000 practitioners living in the deep mountains and forests of the Palona Kingdom. There was a wealthy man named Santanning nearby. He often used vegetarian meals to support practitioners in need at home.
A few years later, the country of Poronai suffered continuous droughts, and the crops in the fields were not harvested, and even the seeds could not be planted. The thousand Pratyekabuddhas who practiced in the mountains came to Santanning's house to beg for food.
San Tanning personally asked about the situation at home, happily agreed to their request for support and sent 500 waiters to serve them. Whenever the food is ready, the waiter will bring a dog to inform everyone to eat.
Just a few years passed, and the master Santanning had no complaints, but the five hundred waiters were very impatient and gradually began to neglect those practitioners who were offered.
On this day, the food was ready, but the waiters seemed to have forgotten to inform the practitioners. Fortunately, the dog was also spiritual and actually went to the place where the Pratyekabuddhas lived alone and barked loudly. The Pratyekabuddhas came to have a meal. After eating
, Pi Bao told Santanning that the drought will end soon and it will rain in a few days. You can prepare to plant crops.
Santanning, although she was surprised, she still took the servants at home to clean up the fields. It really started to rain a few days later, and Santanning arranged for the servants to start planting crops.
What is strange is that the crops that everyone planted, no matter what kind of variety, eventually grew into big melons. When it matures after autumn, I split the big melons and saw that it was full of rice.
Santanning knew that these were all the merits of those Pratyekabuddhas. The whole family was overjoyed and had a huge harvest. After the granary in the family was fully filled, there was still a lot of them that had nowhere to be stored, so they gave them to others for those in need to take them at will.
For a moment, the people of the entire Poronai country were all happy and were very grateful for Santanning's generosity.
After this incident, the five hundred servants who served the Pratyekabuddha and later neglected them were very guilty. They thought they had no idea about Mount Tai and were very disrespectful to the Pratyekabuddha, so they came to the mountain where they practiced and asked the Pratyekabuddha to forgive him.
The Pratyekabuddhas forgive them easily, but the attendants still regretted their mistakes. Finally, they swore in front of the Pratyekabuddhas that they would meet the sages in the next life and thus obtain complete liberation.
The five hundred servants of that year are the five hundred beggars now. Because of this, for five hundred generations, they are still beggars every time they reincarnate. It was just because they later vowed to repent that they achieved the right result and attained the Arhat fruit.
Prince Jita and everyone were ashamed of his disrespectful behavior after listening to Sakyamuni's story. At the same time, Prince Jita was even more grateful for the Buddha's immeasurable merits. From then on, Prince Jita took everyone to practice hard and finally achieved the Arhat Fruit.
