Preface
Maybe, Alar Grass Beach has never appeared in your dream; maybe, Tashkurgan has not been listed in your travel plan. However, visiting the mysterious and beautiful Pamir Plateau is definitely your dream. Because that is our eternal agreement with history and the destiny that spans time and space.
The ancient stone city is the largest stop on the ancient Silk Road passing through the Pamir Plateau to Taxkorgan. Don't underestimate this station, it is an uninterrupted umbilical cord leading to and in the western region. It is this umbilical cord that gathers the entrances and exits of the entire Western Region here, becoming the only thoroughfare for cultural exchanges and intersections of civilizations between China and the West through the ages. It is also this umbilical cord that our ancestors realized their dream of going abroad and dreaming of the Western Regions.
Walking on this plateau, we can still hear the neighing of fierce horses, the clatter of iron hooves, and the broken sound... The layers of broken bricks and rubble under our feet may have witnessed the ups and downs of thousands of years of history; maybe right under our feet, there were once dancing swords, flying knives, and hail of bullets. Countless healthy bodies threw away their heads and shed blood, looking back upon death; perhaps it was at this foot that pioneers such as Faxian, Xuanzang, Huichao and Wukong once stopped to drink horses, preached and observed phenomena, and even suffered and died...
Walking on this plateau, we are reluctant to miss Sichuan and forget to leave. Taxkorgan is our deep nostalgia and our beautiful and warm spiritual home. We praise the meandering, majestic and heroic nature of the Pamirs, and we also praise the heroic Tajik people for their diligence, bravery and kindness...
For thousands of years, the history and culture of the Pamir Plateau are far-reaching and the mountains are high and the rivers are long. We cannot hope for a few short collections or a small exhibition to be able to read her thousands of miles of clouds and understand her eternal wonders. I just hope to carefully seal the beautiful moments, and just long to be absorbed in the moving pictures, to discover the beauty and magic with a dream-seeking state of mind, to appreciate the weight and tolerance, to admire the beauty and charm, to be intoxicated with the richness and romance...
