Karen van den Oever has just completed the deepest dive completed by women scuba diving

In recent years, Karen van den Oever has conducted a large number of diving activities that have created record-breaking scuba diving. She has set two records in the past two years.
scubadiving.com website report that in October, van den Oever broke the Guinness World Record for Women's Scuba Diving Depth. The South African drove to the Boesmansgat cave in his country's North Cape province and dived 245.6 meters.

Now, this number has not been officially confirmed. However, once confirmed, van den Oever will break his own confirmed record on March 26, 2021 - 236.04 meters, also in the Boesmansgat Cave.
8-hour dive at a time
According to Scubadiving.com, in October, Van den Oever's dive in open waters lasted for eight hours and 11 minutes. The media explained that the location of the cave made the dive carried out by van den Oever more complicated than it seems. The Boesmansgat Cave is the third largest known waterfall cave in the world, but its altitude is 1,550 meters above sea level. This complicates the fang time and calculation process, meaning that van den Oever's dive is "equal to" 288 meters of sea level.
Van den Oever's coach Somewhere Out There Diving (SWOT) company helped her with this dive.
According to the scubadiving.com website, Van den Oever began to engage in scubadiving in 2001 and set a personal goal to break the record of cave diving depth soon. Until 2006, she had been doing technical dives, “to gradually hone her abilities and confidence to try this record,” she said.
She also set the record for the deepest dive of men's caves with Nuno Gomes. In 1996, she trained with athletes who passed 282.85 meters down the Boesmansgat cave.
The record she tried to break was gone until van den Oever started targeting this. Before van den Oever's record-breaking dive in 2021, her South African compatriot Verna van Schaik has maintained this record for 17 years, with her diving distance of 220,98 meters.
