He loves life and nature, and is good at using the camera in his hand to capture the beautiful scenery and beautiful moments in life, recording changes in urban and rural construction, economic development, etc.

Yu Donggao was born in April 1942 and graduated from Ningbo Normal School in 1962. He began photography creation in 1983. He is currently a member of the Chinese Photographers Association and a member of the Zhejiang Artists Association . He has published the photography collection "Homeland". So far, Yu Donggao has more than 70 photography awards at the provincial level and above, and more than 10 photography awards from county and city newspapers in the country in the year. Among them, the work "Morning in the Shipyard" won the silver award for the works exhibition jointly sponsored by the Literary and Art Bureau of the Central Propaganda Department and the China Photo Association.
"I think photography is not only a combination of light and shadow, but also a communication between people and beauty. It is a capture of moments in life and an eternal memory left to people." Yu Donggao said.

Accidentally encountered painting and laid the foundation for photography creation
"I liked painting since I was a child. I remember when I was in the fourth grade of the Soochow Primary School, a pencil drawing with the theme of 'Mickey Mouse' was exhibited on the school's cultural wall. From then on, I developed a strong interest in painting." Yu Donggao recalled that since then, he liked to carry sketchbooks with him and sketch when he had time. Sometimes he forgot to eat time, and his mother who was urging him would blame him and say that painting can be eaten as a meal! "In the end, I fulfilled my mother's words. I really made a living by drawing." He joked.
When talking about the road of self-study and creation, Yu Donggao was filled with emotion, "Although it is free, it is difficult to leave." Due to his poor family, Yu Donggao's tuition fee for middle school was barely maintained by scholarships, so he had no conditions to enter a professional art school. "Although I couldn't get in touch with systematic education at that time, life inspired my passion for creation and became a powerful driving force for me to create art." Yu Donggao said that because there was no professional teacher at that time, he was worried that he would take detours, so he bought picture albums and watched exhibitions, and excellent art works became his good teachers. He often observes, studies and analyzes carefully, and even cuts excellent works on a book he carries with him for viewing at any time.
In order to improve the creative skills of realistic paintings, Yu Donggao often experiences life in depth. Whenever he has time, he picks up the sketchbook and accumulates a large amount of creative materials. Draw while waiting for the train at the station, draw on the ship, draw on the train... Practice composition skills hard.
Yu Donggao recalled the ups and downs of self-study creation, his eyes were full of firmness, because he always insisted on a belief: "Literary and artistic works must come from life and must be higher than life." At the age of 30, he finally successfully created an art work with the young intellectuals rooted in the countryside and engaged in pig farming as the theme - "Careful Care". The work was exhibited at a provincial art exhibition for the first time and was published in the Provincial People's Art Publishing House .
In the next few years, Yu Donggao's art works were exhibited in Zhejiang Province every year. The repeated success of his work creation also allowed him to gradually explore the laws of artistic creation, laying a solid foundation for his next stage of photography creation.

Photos one by one, "jumping out" from the computer screen of senior photographer Yu Donggao. Over the past 40 years, he has taken many photos of urban renovation and construction, recording the process of the old appearance of Ningbo.
Yu Donggao puts in the wings of photography creation, thanks to his special identity - a photographer. In the early 1980s, after being transferred from the Dasong District School to the Yin County Exhibition Hall in Ningbo City, he picked up his beloved camera. Recording the times and reflecting life with lenses has become his daily life for more than 40 years, and his lenses are filled with a different kind of Ningbo."I have walked around all the places in Ningbo, and I have walked around every year. The works I shoot are different every time. The beauty of this city cannot be frozen in one shot or one picture," said Yu Donggao.

Looking at these beautiful pictures, Yu Donggao selected a work "The Farmer Blowing Saxophone in the Sunset". He told reporters: "This is a very meaningful scene. A fiery red sunset represents a vibrant new era. The farmers who are blowing saxophone are full of the atmosphere of rural revitalization. In the rural areas of the new era, farmers integrate music into their daily lives and enrich their spiritual world." Yu Donggao sensitively captured such a moment. He used the lens to show us a new scene of achieving common prosperity in the countryside. Farmers are pursuing a rich, diverse, harmonious and wonderful artistic life.
"The development and changes in Ningbo over the past 40 years are not an exaggeration to describe it as the word "change". I have taken many photos of the construction of new cities. I have watched the city become beautiful little by little, especially some landmarks, which have been transformed from the old factory area, and the weather is new and beyond imagination." Yu Donggao said.

In the 20 years after Yu Donggao retired, he had his own "new career". As a photography teacher at Ningzhou University of Elderly, he led a group of photography enthusiasts who have made things done and enjoyed the old, taking photos of humanities and scenery in various parts of the city and countryside, and recording the beautiful life and scenery in front of him with enthusiasm.
"Looking at this photo, if you increase the depth of field, will the 'protagonist' be more prominent and the impact will be stronger? "Yu Donggao said as he opened a photo taken by a student and carefully used PS software to edit and color. In 2004, he began to come into contact with post-production of pictures, "Although it is difficult to learn by yourself, it is novel, and the light and shadow are like magic, making a scene that is more ordinary and colorful.
