This detailed photo of the gecko embryonic hand won the first prize in the 2022 Nikon Small World Microscopy Competition
In a recent microscopy competition, an extremely fine embryonic gecko hand, an extraordinary slime and a psychedelic dyed dinosaur bone were all complex and awesome works.
Nikon Small World Microscope Competition has been held for nearly 50 years, and the organizers said in a statement that it is a professional event that combines "Science and Art under the Microscope" (opened with a new tab). This match highlights the beauty of the incredible little thing, as long as you take an image with an optical microscope , anyone can participate. On October 11, event organizers released the first 20 pictures of the year.
Grigori Timin, a doctoral student at the University of Geneva, Switzerland, won the first prize in this year's competition, carefully planned and photographed a picture of a gecko hand-dyeeded with fluorescent dye. The winning photo was taken under the supervision of Michel Milinkovitch, an evolutionary geneticist at the University of Geneva, and was stitched together by thousands of individual images.
