Most of the pictures in this group are from Japanese private collections, which truly reproduce the images of Japan entrenching in the ancient city of Kaifeng during the period of Japan's full invasion of China.
年后六文
Kaifeng is the ancient capital of the Eight Dynasties. The earliest Kaifeng City in history is Daliang City, the capital of Wei in the Warring States Period, which was built more than 2,300 years ago. In history, this city was flooded many times, so the scene of cities spreading over cities appeared. The Kaifeng City Wall in the picture was rebuilt in the 22nd year of Daoguang in the Qing Dynasty (1842).
Xinminmen
Xinminmen is the Danan Gate of Kaifeng. When Feng Yuxiang was in charge of Henan, he renamed it Zhongshan Gate. Later, Liu Zhi demolished the city gate and converted it into a bunker-style building in the picture. Although it is inappropriate, it frequently appeared in old photos of Kaifeng because of its tallness.
Inside the city gate
Looking north from Xinmin Gate at Zhongshan Road in Kaifeng, the first thing that catches your eye is a bunker built by Japanese people on the street. To the north of the fort is the octagonal pavilion located in the center of the street. One corner of it was seen in the door opening in the picture above.
Kaifeng Drum Tower
Several Japanese soldiers passed by Drum Tower . Kaifeng Drum Tower was built in the 12th year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1379). In 1928, Feng Yuxiang built a spire-shaped square building in the center of the roof, with giant automatic bells installed on all sides. In 1948, the two floors on the platform were destroyed by war, and the platform was demolished in November 1976. The current Drum Tower was rebuilt in 2013.
Treatment Center
A hospital opened in Kaifeng City in front of the door with a sign hanging on it with the words "KaifengTreatment Center of Greater Japan" on it. Shortly after Japan invaded Kaifeng, it established such a so-called hospital, with the purpose of trying to win people's hearts through small favors and favors in order to achieve the goal of long-term occupation.
wins people's hearts
The Japanese in the treatment center carry out some free medical activities from time to time. The picture shows a Japanese performing therapy activity in a courtyard outside the north gate of Kaifeng in October 1940. Japanese translator wearing a top hat also appeared on the scene.
In front of the door, the Japanese
June 6, 1938, Kaifeng fell. On March 1, 1939, under the support of the Japanese, the traitors established the pseudo- Henan Provincial Government . The picture shows a Japanese soldier standing in front of the door of a pseudo-government building with a saber hanging on his waist.
Dragon Dance Team
In October 1938, Wuhan fell, and Japanese people from all over the occupied areas of North China held celebrations. Local traitors in Kaifeng also followed the trend and organized a dragon dance team to participate, and specially arranged to perform for soldiers in front of the Japanese military camp.
Japanese women
A group of Japanese women wearing kimonos and wearing white aprons outside were parading on the streets. Both sides of the road were crowded with people watching the fun, and some Japanese soldiers were mixed in between the people. What's abominable is that the puppet army military band followed behind these Japanese women.
Stilt Team
In addition to the dragon dance team, the traitor also organized the stilt team, which was their preparation before the performance. A performer was smiling happily while tied up stilts. It seems that it is not the only one who hates the destruction of the country.
km14
A local rally in Kaifeng, where there were Japanese officers, traitor leaders and armed teams of traitor organizations. Members of this armed team were holding spears and were sitting on the ground listening to a woman's brainwashing report on "China-Japan Goodwill".
Before the military headquarters
Two senior Japanese officials were walking out of the door. Under the steps, two Japanese officers stood straight, each carrying swords , looking arrogant. On the wall next to the gate, propaganda slogans of "East Asian Peace" are painted.
Soldier standing guard
A Japanese soldier wearing glasses and wearing a winter suit stood on the wall of Kaifeng City, holding a bayonet cover in his hand. At that time, many Japanese soldiers wearing glasses also went to the battlefield, which also shows from one aspect that many Japanese soldiers have studied and have relatively high education.
in front of the prison gate
A middle-aged man stood in front of the sixth prison gate of Kaifeng Prison. His face looked very similar to an honest and obedient farmer. He was arrested by the Japanese for some reason. He wore shackles on his feet and was probably convicted of being a serious crime.
Memorial Tower
Located in the southern section of Zhongshan Road, the National Revolutionary Army Memorial Tower was originally built by Feng Yuxiang to commemorate Cheng Shen. The tower is more than 20 meters high, narrow on the top and wide on the bottom, like a huge sword penetrated straight into the sky.
Zhongshan Road
Japanese photographer was walking on Zhongshan Road in an rickshaw , taking a memorial tower from a distance. At this time, the original words on the tower had been erased and replaced with a propaganda slogan "China-Japan Friendship to Protect Peace in East Asia forever". A Japanese military vehicle is passing under the tower.
Lanfeng Railway Station
Four Japanese soldiers stood in front of Lanfeng County Railway Station taking a photo. On May 14, 1938, the Chinese army had fierce battles with the 14th Division of the Japanese Army here, and once recaptured Lanfeng County, known in history as " Lanfeng Battle ".
