925 Ganbo and his wife

Sidney David Gamble (Sidney David Gamble, 1890–1968), a socioeconomist and photographer, dedicated to the investigation and research of social and economic issues in urban and rural China.

908-1932, Mr. Gan Bo visited China four times, took more than 5,000 black and white photos, 30 volumes of 16mm movie films, and handmade hundreds of hand-colored frosted glass slides, of which more than 3,000 recorded the urban landscape and people's lives of old Beijing. These video materials captured China in an era of major historical changes and established a rich set of image archives for Chinese society in the early 20th century.

This series of photos is a picture of the Three Gorges taken by Mr. Gan Bo during his visit to China.

On June 11, 1917, Gan Bo, Fepped and John Arthur set out from Shanghai, followed the Yangtze River , and arrived in Chongqing via Hankou and Yichang . After the three arrived in Chongqing, they hired 15 local porters and traveled between Sichuan, passing through Chongqing, Tongliang , Tongnan , Suining, Chengdu, Xindu , Dujiangyan , Wenchuan , Lixian , Maoxian and other places. Then they went down from Chongqing to Hankou and returned to Shanghai on October 9.

A wooden boat passed Yichang Yihe Foreign Travel and headed towards the customs terminal

The above photo should have been taken by Gan Bo when he returned to Yichang from Chongqing. In the photo, the wooden boat sailing on the river is sailing upwards by Yichang Yihe Foreign Company. The sailing boat is not far away and is "Yichang Pass".

From the photo, there is a ship on the river, which is a ship of Nissin Company. The company's ship's chimney has four eye-catching white lines, which marks the merger of the company in 1907 by the Japanese Osaka Merchant Shipping Company, Japan Shipping Company, Hunan Steamboat Company and Daidong Steamboat Company. Since the company was established, it also absorbed a small amount of Chinese people's shares, so the company was named "Nissin". At that time, the Nissin Shipping Company Wharf was between Yichangguan Wharf and Dananmenyi Wharf.
