This is a set of old photos taken in Nanchong, Sichuan, taken in 1909. The photographer was taken by American geologist Thomas Zhang Berlin. In 1909, the University of Chicago, the United States sent an Oriental Education Expedition to China. Geologist Thomas Zhang Berlin and his son Rollin Zhang Berlin were both members. Luo Lin, who was only 28 years old at the time, was responsible for photography throughout the process. He left us with detailed texts and high-definition photos. In March 1909, the delegation set off in Nanchong, Sichuan. Nanchong was the starting point of their itinerary. Nanchong, also known as "Fruit City and Silk Capital", is located in the northeast of Sichuan, in the middle of the Jialing River. According to the " Taiping Huanyu Ji ", Nanchong is named after it is located in the southern part of the ancient Chong Kingdom: "take the ancient Chong Kingdom as its name", Nanchong has a long history, originating from Anhan, established in 202 BC, which has been around for more than 2,220 years.
909, Nanchong is located between Qujiang and the Jialing River Basin. You can see that from a distance, the mountains and fields are almost covered with fertile terraces.
909’s terraced fields at Xinglongchang in Nanchong, Xinglongchang is now Nanxingwang Town, Peng'an County. The "Pengzhou Chronicle" of Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty recorded that Xinglong Field was "thirty miles southeast of Huilong Field. It was ninety miles north to the city. The water and Nanchong were bounded by the middle of the field." You can see that there are trees on the fields of Xinglongchang that year, reflected in the mirror-like paddy fields, swaying and beautiful scenery.

The Jialing River is named after it flows through the Jialing Valley in the northeast of Feng County, Shaanxi Province. The main stream flows through Shaanxi, Gansu, Sichuan, and Chongqing, and merges into the Yangtze River at Chaotianmen in Chongqing. In the past, Nanchong was a small small town on the banks of the Jialing River.
909's Nanchong White Tower , also known as Wuliang Pagoda, is located on Heming Mountain on the bank of the Xijialing River in Nanchong City, across the river from Nanchong City. "Baita Morning Bell" is one of the eight scenic spots in Nanchong. According to the "Newly Repaired Nanchong County Chronicle", the White Tower was built during the reign of the Song Dynasty Taizu.
