According to his portfolio, Cavallioscas was previously a famous Raptor photographer, and recently he turned his attention to insects.

This year is the 48th annual Nikon Photography Competition. Its focus is on microscope photography, revealing details that cannot be seen by the human eye. Kavaliauskas' photos did not make the top 20 and honorary awards category, but were included in one of the 57 "outstanding pictures".

Kavaliauskas said he appreciates how miniature photography allows him to discover newer and more interesting aspects of subjects.

"I'm always looking for details, shadows and invisible corners. The main goal of photography is to be a discoverer," he said.

"When I first started mini photography, I also thought that all beetle looked a little like monsters," he told us. "But now, I'm used to it, and I'm surprised that there are so many interesting, beautiful and unknown miracles at our feet."
