I met Huang Jinpei in April 2020. Counting on my fingers, it has been more than 2 years since I photographed the 89-year-old Huang Jinpei.
He is my model and my "swimming friend". It is a coincidence that we met. Every April, when the peach blossoms are in full bloom in Hangzhou, I walked and took photos at the Genshan Gate section of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. That time I discovered the "small pond", which is also an outdoor swimming pool. The weather was still relatively cold at that time, but the small pond was still there. There were more than 10 swimming enthusiasts enjoying swimming and diving, including Uncle Huang Huangpei, who was 87 years old at the time.
I was also surprised to find that Huang Huangpei always jumped into the water on two large rocks protruding from the water in the small pond. In the two years since
two people met, I used a Canon 1DX camera and a Canon 328 and 24-70 lens to take diving and overhead shots of him from various angles. I felt that the quality of the pictures was good, and the pictures I took were It has been reprinted on Sina , Sohu , Tencent , NetEase and other platforms, and Huang Jinpei has become a well-known swimming expert in the Hangzhou swimming circle.

Huang Huangpei, 89 years old this year, is a very interesting sports expert. He is a demobilized soldier who worked at the Genshan Railway Freight Station before retiring. He is a well-known sports expert in his workplace. He also went to the Songhua River to swim in the water at minus 30 degrees Celsius. Huang Huangpei remembers that winter swim. The ice on the river was more than a foot thick. After swimming, he put on his slippers and stood there for less than a minute, but the slippers were frozen.
Waiting for retirement, Huang Huangpei loves sports even more. In August 2005, the Asian Triathlon Championship (amateur group over 60 years old) and the national selection competition were held in Qingdao . Huang Huangpei, who was already 72 years old at the time, participated in this competition. (Amateur Senior Group) and won the silver medal.

Huang Huangpei’s family is also worried because he is still diving in his 80s. But Huang Huangpei has always believed that "swimming brings me health, and diving brings me another kind of pleasure." Now at the age of 90, he still enjoys it.
Wang Lei described Huang Jinpei this way: "He has a very big image in my heart. I have to look up to see him."
Both of them are super sports fans and they hit it off immediately. Huang Jinpei usually dives 2-4 times every morning. If he feels good, he will jump twice more. If he is not in good condition, he will jump less. Sometimes he only swims. Every time he dives, you can see Wang Lei squatting nearby with a "cannon" to find a spot to steal the camera. One person was diving and the other was squatting to take pictures. The two of them once became a scenery in the swimming pool.
Wang Lei said: "In the beginning, I used a Canon 1Dx camera and a Canon 328 fixed-focus lens to shoot. The picture quality was naturally good, but the shooting angle only took a top-down overhead shot, which was a bit inadequate." This year Starting in April, Wang Lei started a new attempt: "I used the ultra-wide-angle function of iPhone12, used the blue sky and white clouds as the background, and tried to shoot using the 'low-angle, ultra-wide-angle, close-range' method, which gave the pictures a different look. Visual effects - the scene is wider, the background is more beautiful, the diving is more prominent and unforgettable."
Wang Lei said with a bit of regret: "In May this year, Huang Jinpei was installed with a pacemaker, and he jumped on his back. Water has become his last song. From now on, he will never be seen jumping into the water again. "
