On the morning of October 29th, at the 15th International Genomics Conference (ICG-15) held in Wuhan, my country’s famous genetic disease and birth defect prevention expert and the first people in Yunnan Province Professor Zhu Baosheng from the Department of Medical Genetics of the Hospital gave a keynote report entitled "Clinical Pilot Program for the Prevention and Control of Thalassemia in Yunnan Province with NGS Technology". Green Club Financial Media shared this wonderful report as follows.

Professor Zhu Baosheng’s team proved that Yunnan Province is one of China’s thalassemia high-risk areas through large-scale investigations and discovered that Yunnan Thalassemia patients have a rich diversity of globin gene mutations, and the use of next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology can better carry out thalassaemia carrier screening and fetal genotype testing, completely blocking the birth of thalassaemia fetuses; if both husband and wife One of them does not have a pathogenic gene mutation and is a low-risk family. Prenatal diagnosis of thalassaemia gene is not required. Among more than 20,000 babies whose parents have received NGS technology to detect thalassaemia genes and have given birth There was no child with thalassemia severe, and 113 fetuses with severe thalassemia were diagnosed through prenatal genetic diagnosis in screening high-risk families. The pregnancy was terminated in time, achieving the pilot goal of complete prevention and control. NGS technology has also reduced the cost of prevention and control by 1/3. On average, a family of 45 US dollars (300 yuan) can complete all tests for thalassemia prevention and control. After the NGS technology is promoted and applied in the future, it is expected to realize "the world has no poverty".
As one of the most influential annual conferences in the field of global omics, this ICG-15 academic event was organized by BGI, China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation, China Urban Science Foundation The research society, the Chinese Society of Bioengineering, the Chinese Society of Genetics, Peking University Health Science Center, and Wuhan University are co-sponsored and supported by the Wuhan East Lake New Technology Development Zone Management Committee and China Optics Valley. With the theme of "omics and human health", the conference set up 22 sub-forums. More than 160 scientists (including 13 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Sciences) from 21 countries brought it through online and offline channels. Top academic feast.
