In this universe, there flows the "qi" or "will" that promotes the evolution and development of all things. At the same time, I believe that human nature is full of "love, sincerity and harmony". The so-called "love" means wishing others well; the so-called "sincerity" means doing your best for society and the world; the so-called "harmony" means making not only yourself but also others happy.

A horse-drawn carriage team consists of several groups and families that travel for several months. Driven by a strong desire for wealth, they pushed westward. In this team, there are bad-tempered people, as well as weak women and young children. The captain of the horse-drawn carriage team needs to have centripetal force to integrate all kinds of people and lead them to their destination.

During the journey, the captain of the carriage team must ensure that everyone has food and drinking water and distribute them reasonably. There was the need to arbitrate in disputes that occasionally occurred, and to care for the sick and injured. In short, everything that happens to the team during the journey must be resolved in a way that is acceptable to everyone.

For this reason, the captain of the carriage team needs to constantly make fair and just judgments, gain the trust and respect of everyone, and have excellent qualifications. At the same time, I believe that only such a captain can lead the carriage team to reach its destination safely.

Regarding this qualification of a leader, Chinese Ming Dynasty thinker Lu Xinwu wrote in his book "Moaning Language": "Profundity and depth are the first-class qualifications." [1]

That is to say, as a leader, the most important qualification is to have a solid character that always thinks deeply about the essence of things. I believe that the captain of the carriage team is a leader with this qualification.

Lu Xinwu also said that "being smart and debating is the third-class qualification." This means that "smart and eloquent" are only third-class qualifications.

However, in modern times, whether in the East or the West, it is very common for people who only possess what Lu Xinwu calls the third-class qualifications, that is, smart and eloquent people, to be selected as leaders. Yes, such talents can also contribute to the organization if they make good use of their abilities. However, they may not be able to win the trust and respect of their subordinates and customers, and they may not be able to become true leaders.

Sometimes when infighting breaks out in an organization, harmonious relationships break down. I believe that the background of this disharmony within the group is because the leaders appointed only have third-class qualifications. For an organization to grow and develop healthily, coordination and harmony within the group are essential. For this reason, what Lu Xinwu said is a leader with first-class qualifications who can gain the trust and respect of everyone is indispensable.

So, what are the qualifications that a good leader needs to have, specifically? I want to talk about these qualifications.

First, as mentioned earlier, leaders must be fair.

The leader is in a position to make judgments on major issues that affect the fate of the group. In this case, the most important thing for a leader is fairness. The factor that hinders justice is self-interest or selfishness that puts personal interests first. As long as there is even a little selfishness mixed in, the judgment will be ambiguous and the decision will go in the wrong direction.

The leader is in a position to make judgments on major issues that affect the fate of the group. In this case, the most important thing for a leader is fairness.

The Meiji Restoration opened the curtain of Japan's modernization. The hero of this revolution Saigo Takamori , regarding the harm caused by "selfishness", once said: "Those who love themselves are the most unkind. There is no fruit in your studies, you will not succeed in your career, you will not correct your mistakes, and you will be arrogant because of your achievements. All are caused by loving yourself, so you must never love yourself. Also."

means, "Only love yourself, as long as it is good for yourself, and do not consider others. This kind of self-interest is a taboo in life. Failure to study well, not succeeding in career, not correcting mistakes, and taking credit are all caused by excessive self-love, so self-interest must not be done."

I also believe that leaders have to make judgments on various things, and this judgment will determine the fate of the group. Therefore, egoists mixed with selfishness are the most incompetent leaders. The behavior of a leader who puts his or her own interests first will not only greatly reduce morale on the ground, but also morally corrupt the entire organization.

It is a common situation that the higher the status of a person, the more they value themselves. However, the greater the leader, the more he should be the first to make self-sacrifice. I don’t think such people are qualified to be leaders if they can’t put their own affairs aside and don’t have the courage to accept things that make them suffer.

Secondly, another qualification required as a leader is courage.

Leaders make correct judgments with a fair attitude. In order to put this judgment into practice, they must have courage. Because even if it is a correct judgment, not everyone may agree with it, and those who are harmed by this judgment will speak out against it. Even under such circumstances, leaders must decisively follow correct judgment and resolutely implement the right things in the right way.

Like this, he is not afraid of any difficulties and uprightly carries out what he thinks is right to the end. To do this requires real courage.

It is intolerable for leaders to lack courage, dare not face up to the grim reality, and compromise. When a leader is timid and indecisive, his subordinates can see through it at a glance. Seeing the unsatisfactory look on his boss's face and saying, "It turns out our leader is a good-for-nothing guy," the leader will lose the trust and respect from the team in an instant.

To be a leader, you must have the courage and belief to overcome all difficulties and obstacles, implement the right things in the right way, and make great strides towards achieving your goals.

Again, leaders must be humble.

Especially leaders who are capable, accomplished and excellent, I hope they will learn the qualification of humility. Once people achieve success, they tend to believe in themselves too much and think that success is due to their strong abilities. As a result, they become arrogant and forget to thank the people around them and relax their efforts.

An arrogant leader may achieve temporary success, but his success will never be sustained over the long term. This can be clearly seen from the history of countries around the world. There have been many heroes who have strived to rise, but once they succeeded, they forgot about their humility, became arrogant, and fell from the top.

In view of this lesson, I have used "Be humble, don't be proud, and work harder" as the business slogan of Kyocera three times.

At that time, Kyocera achieved rapid development, and as a manager, I myself received high praise from all aspects of society. I feel that given this great opportunity, we must not forget to be humble, complacent, or slack off in our efforts. Putting forward such a slogan is not only to encourage ourselves, but also to let cadres and employees understand the importance of humility, so that they can have a deeper understanding that only by persistent efforts and redoubled efforts can we ensure the future development of the company.

I repeatedly emphasized this point of view on various occasions, and the employees accepted and responded to it. Therefore, Kyocera did not become arrogant later, and all employees worked together to make endless efforts. I think it is precisely because of this that Kyocera has achieved what it has today.

I hope that all of you here, even if you achieve success, will never forget to be humble, and redouble your efforts with a heart of care and gratitude for the people around you. Only such leaders can build a team with sustainable growth and development.

Finally, leaders should always maintain an optimistic and cheerful attitude.

is full of dreams and hopes, maintains an optimistic attitude, and creates a cheerful atmosphere within the team. This is also an important job of a leader.

Once you engage in business, difficult issues will occur one after another. But the more difficult the situation is, the less we can lose our dreams and hopes.

On the one hand, is the strong determination to "work hard no matter what"; on the other hand, it is the belief that "no matter what, my future will be bright and brilliant". It is very important to maintain an optimistic and cheerful attitude in life.

This can be extremely difficult for the client at the center of adversity. But even if it is forced, let yourself think like that. At the same time, as a leader, it is important to instill these positive thoughts into your subordinates and make greater efforts than in the past. Keep an optimistic attitude and work hard, and there is no doubt that you will be rewarded.

No matter what adversity you are in now, your future will be bright. Holding this mentality is not only a necessary condition for being a leader, but also an iron rule for success in life and the wisdom for people to survive.

He mentioned the third-class qualifications of people in "Moaning Language", that is, "profundity and heaviness are the first-class qualifications, being upright and heroic is the second-class qualifications, and being clever and eloquent is the third-class qualifications."
