在SCI論文寫作時，經常使用短語來過渡論文觀點或引出主題，合適的短語有利於提升論文的流暢性和邏輯塑造。但是，非英文母語者，特別是中國學者，經常使用的短語中，有一些反而會使論文變得冗餘。
今天來給各位學者老師分享一些在SCI論文寫作中要盡量少用的學術短語。
1. As well as
經常使用的短語as well as可能會使論文句子變得冗長。最常見的錯誤使用方法是用 As well as來連接多個並列句，但其實可以使用同樣意思但更簡單的 and 來連接。
2. By using
這個介詞短語可以進一步簡化，直接使用 using 替代。
3. Due to the fact that/of
這個用語經常在SCI論文寫作時被使用。在大多數情況下，使用簡單的 because 就可以，會使得文章簡潔明快。
4. In this essay/paper/study, we will…
這個短語經常出現在論文introduction部分，有時這種敘述對引導讀者是有幫助的。但其實刪掉這句「In this essay/paper/study, we will… 」，對論文也沒有什麼影響。反而會讓文章更加精簡流暢，開門見山。
5. On average
On average隱含「大約」的意味，是一個「不精確」的短語，應該避免使用它。可以使用 an average of 來替代。
比如：Our results demonstrated that,on average, birds returned to the nest X number of times.
修改為：According to our results, birds returned to the nest an average number of X times.
6. In the event that
該短語可以用一個簡單的 If 來代替，而且句子的意思不會改變。
7. For a short (or long) period of time
這個短語也在SCI等學術論文中比較常見。For a short period of time其實可以縮短為 For a short time (或 For a long time)，由此，論文句子縮短，使得文章更易讀。
8. On the other hand…
在英語中，某些短語必須成對出現才能使句子通順。在沒有先使用on the one hand的情況下，不能單獨使用on the other hand。On the one hand…on the other hand，這種搭配經常被誤用。
9. It's worth mentioning/it』s worth considering…
這個短語句子比較主觀，且非常中文直譯，不適合在嚴謹的SCI論文等學術論文中使用。
比如：It's worth considering whether the recent storm patterns are connected to glacier melt.
修改為：Recent storm patterns may be connected to glacier melt.
10. Further research is needed…/be needed to ...
這個短語句式是被動句，將被動句子改成主動句，顯得更加客觀，效果更好。
比如：Further research is needed to determine how extensive the damage to the intestinal wall is.
修改為：Future studies will gauge the extent to which intestinal walls are damaged.
有個常見的誤區認為只有「複雜」的語言才是專業，其實學術寫作反而更加強調客觀、簡潔和清晰明了，在SCI等學術論文中過渡詞不需要出現在每句話的開頭。儘可能把句子寫得流暢簡潔，段落之間邏輯清晰！
