久负盛名的影星Buster·Keaton因其不论何时面部都始终保持严肃的风格被称为 “the Great Stone Face”，石头脸和不可思议的特技动作让Keaton的作品自成一派，广泛的影响力使Keaton成为电影史上最重要的喜剧演员之一。
许多观众以为Keaton一生从来没有笑过，亦有传言电影公司的条款不允许Keaton在表演时露出笑容。国际Buster·Keaton协会指出这只是谣言，电影公司并没有理由和动机对Keaton提出这种条款。

而于Keaton本人来说，严肃的表情也只是行之有效的表演方式而已，因得到认可和好评所以作为固定风格来使用，并非存在某些心理障碍或者不幸的遭遇。
1910s Keaton的电影事业尚处于起步阶段，当年红极一时的喜剧演员Roscoe 'Fatty' Arbuckle与Keaton合作了一系列短片，作为配角的Keaton形象已经初见雏形并具有辨识度，但还不是日后那个严肃的石头脸。年轻的Keaton在早年的胶片里留下了无数开心笑容。

和Keaton合作过的女演员Bartine·Burkett回忆道：“ We’d be right in the middle of a take, and he’d think of something funny. He’d ruin the take, and we’d have to do it over again. But he laughed at everything very easily, and it was hard for him to be so solemn. ”
