1. across from

across from在……的對面；在……對過。例如：

The hospital is across from the supermarket.

醫院在超市的對面。

辨析：across與through

across表示的是從某物的一邊到另一邊;指從表面上橫過。例如：

She ran across the road. 她從馬路上跑過。

through表示從內部通過，有「穿過，透過」等意思。例如：

They went through the forest. 他們穿過森林。

2. in front of

in front of是介詞短語表示「在......前面」，of的後面經常用名詞或者代詞表示地點。例如：

My brother sits in front of me in our classroom.

在我們的教室里我弟弟坐在我的前面。

注意：in front of強調一個物體在另一個物體外部的前面。in the front of強調一個物體在另一個物體內部的前面。例如：

There is a big desk in the front of our classroom.

在我們教室里前面有一個大課桌。

There is a big tree in front of our classroom.

在我們教室前面有一棵大樹。

3. free

（1）free 形容詞，意為「免費的」。例如：

Here is your free lunch. 這是你的免費午餐。

Your ticket is free. 你的票是免費的。

（2）free 作形容詞還可以意為「自由的，有空的」。

Are you free tomorrow?

明天你有空嗎？

I have some free time on weekends.

在周末我有些空閑的時間。

4. pay

（1）pay用作動詞是「付款」的意思，經常和介詞for連用表示「為......付款」。例如：

I paid 200 Yuan for that new bike.

那輛新自行車花了我200元。

（2）pay用作名詞是「工資、薪金」之意。例如：

He doesn』t like the job, but the pay is good.

他不喜歡那份工作，但是薪水很高。

5. around

（1）around 作副詞，意為「在四周，在周圍」。look around 意為「朝四周看」。例如：

He looked around, and said nothing.

他四周看了看，什麼也沒說。

The moon moves around the earth.

月亮繞著地球轉。

（2）around 作介詞， 意為「在……附近，圍繞」，常用片語：

「around the world / country」意為「世界/全國各地」；

「show sb. around」意為「帶領某人參觀」。例如：

They showed us around the school.

他們帶領我們參觀了學校。

6. turn

（1）turn 做動詞時，可以做行為動詞也可以做連繫動詞。做行為動詞時，意為「轉彎，轉身，翻轉，旋轉」。例如：

Turn left at the end of the road. (行為動詞)

在路的盡頭左轉。

The leaves turn yellow. 葉子變黃了。（連繫動詞）

（2）turn 還可以作名詞，意為「輪流，順序」。例如：

It』s your turn to clean the room.

輪到你打掃房間了。

7. enjoy

（1）enjoy doing sth.意為「喜歡做……」或者「做……很開心/很享受」。其中的enjoy是動詞，有「欣賞，享受，喜愛」等意思，後接名詞、代詞或動名詞。例如：

People enjoy the city』s quiet street.

人們喜愛這個城市寧靜的街道。

I enjoy listening to pop music.

我喜歡聽流行音樂。

（2）enjoy常見的習慣用語還有enjoy oneself,意為「玩得開心，過得愉快」，和have a good time同義。例如：

They are enjoying themselves.

= They are having a good time.

他們玩得很開心。

8. post

（1）post作名詞，意為「郵件，郵遞，郵筒（箱）」。例如：

There was a big post this morning.

今天郵件很多。

Please take these letters to the post.

請將這些信件投郵。

（2）post 作動詞，意為「郵寄，郵遞」。例如：

Could you post this letter for me?

你能替我把這封信寄出去嗎？

9. police

police 作名詞，意為「警察」，屬集體名詞，複數含義，不能與a連用；作主語時謂語動詞要用複數形式。複合名詞policeman / policewoman 有單複數之分，對應的複數分別為policemen / policewomen。例如：

The police try to save the old man.

警察們設法救這位老人。

Policemen and policewomen work in a police station.

警察在警察局裡工作。

10. neighborhood

neighborhood 名詞，意為「附近，鄰近地區」。片語「in the neighborhood」表示在 「附近地區」，相當於near here。如果後面加上介詞of，即in the neighborhood of 則表示「在……附近」，相當於near。例如：

There is a hospital in the neighborhood.= There is a hospital near here.附近有一家醫院。

He lives in the neighborhood of the supermarket.

= He lives near the supermarket.他住在超市附近。

11. along

（1）along 作介詞，意為「沿著」，相當於down。例如：

We can walk along that road. 我們可以沿著那條路走。

（2）along 作副詞，意為「向前，一同」。與動詞連用時，常與on同義，

表示「向前移動」。例如：

Come along, Lin Feng. 林峰，來吧。
