First lady back to classroom

French first lady Brigitte Macron is set toreturn to the classroom in a new adult training college for schooldrop-outs. Macron, a French and drama teacher until 2015, has accepted asupervisoryand teaching role for a new school in a suburb of Paris and another in a rural area of southeast France.

On Monday, Brigitte visited the first of the schools and said the school aimed to give its students, who will be paid 1,000 euros a month, "the foundations to be able to enter the workplace". According to her Elysée aides, starting from September, she will teach young adults aged between 25 to 30 French and literature "once or twice a month".

All-out abortion ban

全美最嚴反墮胎法出台

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey signed a controversialbill that bans nearly allabortionsinto law Wednesday evening. It's considered the mostrestrictiveabortion law in the US. It makes such a crime for doctors to perform abortions at any stage of a pregnancy, unless a woman's life is threatened or there is alethalfetalanomaly.

But a woman would not be held criminally liable for having an abortion. The Alabama Senate passed the bill Tuesday evening. The state House had already overwhelmingly approved the legislation.

Trees in cities die young

Trees in cities "live fast but die young" compared to rural forests, warns a new study. Researchers found that trees in urban areas die faster than ones in the countryside as higher levels of carbon dioxidemake it harder for the plant to survive. City-dwelling trees suffer a net loss of carbon storage which means trees produce less energy from the air.

一項新研究警告說，相比鄉間樹林里的樹，城裡的樹"長得快但死得早"。研究人員發現，城區樹木的壽命比鄉間樹木短，因為城市二氧化碳濃度更高，讓樹更難存活。生長在城裡的樹碳儲量是凈虧損的，這意味着樹用空氣轉化成的能量更低。

Researchers say strategiccombinations of planting and maintenance will be needed to secure urban sustainability but more needs to be done to develop understanding of urban trees and their ecosystems - which may differ from rural forests.

China to host 2023 Asian Cup

South Korea has withdrawnits bid to host the 2023 Asian FootballConfederation(AFC) Asian Cup, giving China a free run to stage thequadrennialcompetition. "The Korea Football Association (KFA) decided to drop the Asian Cup bid to strategically focus on the hosting of the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup," KFA secretary general said in a statement.
