You are impossible千萬別理解為“你不可能”

大家應該都知道阿湯哥主演的

電影《碟中諜》系列吧！

英文名就是 Mission impossible

直譯過來是：不可能完成的任務

還有一句非常勵志的話：

Nothing is impossible.

沒有什麼是不可能的。

被無數人奉為人生的座右銘，

成為激勵自己向上的動力。

所以對於 impossible 這個單詞，

我們都非常熟悉，

比較常見的意思是：不可能的，辦不到的

一般都是用來形容行動或事件的。

It was impossible to sleep because of the noise.

噪音太大，無法入睡。

He made it impossible for me to say no.

他使我無法說不。

但如果突然有人對你說 You are impossible.

那你要注意了，他並不是在說“你不可能”，

而是在對你表示鄙夷！

impossible 形容人的時候，

表示：（人）壞透了，極難對付

劍橋詞典的解釋是：

An impossible person behaves very badly or is extremely difficult to deal with.

是指那些行為非常壞，或者極度難以相處的人。

所以 You are impossible 其實在說：

你簡直不可理喻，讓人難以忍受

I had to leave the job because my boss was impossible.

我得辭職，因為我的老闆實在是太差勁了。

My niece is impossible when she's tired - you can't do anything to please her.

我侄女累的時候很難相處——你做什麼也無法使她高興。

想要表達一個人“不可理喻”，

除了 You are impossible 外，

還可以用這兩個表達：

you are unbelievable.

you are unreasonable.

You blew everyone away, you were unbelievable.

你趕走了所有人，真是太不可理喻了。

Kiss you, love you, you are unreasonable, it hurts you.

吻你，是愛你，任你無理取鬧，是疼你。

You are difficult

difficult 形容事物，表示：艱難的，困難的

a difficult problem / task / language

難題／艱巨的任務／難學的語言

當有人說你 You are difficult

難道在說“你這個人很難”？

不是這樣的！

difficult 在形容人的時候，

意思是：不友好的，難以接近的，難對付的

所以 You are difficult 其實是在說你很難相處。

The manager is difficult to deal with / a difficult person to deal with.

那位經理很難對付。

His wife is a very difficult woman.

他妻子是個難以接近的人。

You are picky

我們都知道，pick 表示“挑選，選擇”，

picky 是它的形容詞，

表示：吹毛求疵的，愛挑剔的

所以 You are picky 其實是在說：

孩子們非常挑食。

Big companies can afford to be picky about who they hire.

大公司有實力在僱人時挑挑揀揀。

You are pushy

push 表示“推，推動”，

同時可以表示“逼迫”的意思，

它的形容詞 pushy 表示：

獨斷專行的，咄咄逼人的，固執的

a pushy salesman

拚命勸別人買東西的推銷員

Most of the time, she is bossy and pushy.

大多數時候，她都是專橫、固執的。

You're bad

當想表達一個人“壞”的時候，

你可能會想到說：You're bad.

但實際上，這個表達的真實意思，卻是在夸人。

在英語中，bad 還有“很棒，很酷”的意思

you are bad 就表示：你很棒，你很酷

這是一句美國的地道口語表達。

所以，當有人這樣對你說時，

可不要誤會對方在損你哦。

I like your idea. You are really bad.
